Tesla Model Y is Germany’s Best Selling Vehicle

Tesla Model Y is Germany’s Best Selling Vehicle

Tesla has overtaken Volkswagen in Germany. The Texas-based electric car maker has been steadily rising in Germany's sales charts. The Model Y, Tesla's latest car, became the best-selling vehicle.

Germany is famously a challenging and vital market to penetrate. It's also one of the most competitive markets in Europe, with local automakers like BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz being world-class. In spite of this, the electric car maker announced that its Tesla Model Y became the overall best-selling vehicle in Germany.

In September 2022, the Model Y dethroned Volkswagen off the top spot becoming the best-selling car in Germany. This is no small feat considering VW is arguably one of the largest automotive manufacturers in history with an incredibly wide range of vehicle offerings. This is a historic moment for Tesla and the German market.

So when Tesla registered 9,846 Model Y just in a month according to KBA Data it was no small feat for the EV manufacturer. The overall shift of best-selling vehicles was caused by Tesla. In fact, it outsold its competitors by a huge margin.

While it's true that German automakers like BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz are world-class. Tesla has managed to beat them all when it comes to sales numbers for their newest model.

The  German market is  notorious for being difficult to penetrate. Tesla is certainly no stranger to this challenge. The company has struggled to gain traction in Germany since entering the market there in 2014. This is not surprising given that Germany is famously a challenging and vital market to penetrate. Tesla has done so successfully before with their Model 3. But now that a local facility is producing Teslas produced in Germany, the EV manufacturer is poised to raise production dramatically.

Tesla sold just under 40,000 vehicles last year. Now that a local facility is producing Teslas produced in Germany, the EV manufacturer is poised to raise production dramatically.

Last month, a report was revealed indicating that Tesla intends to sell 80,000 vehicles in 2022. In June 2022, Tesla announced reaching 2000 vehicles per week at its Berlin facility. This has helped the company bring itself closer to becoming best selling car worldwide. It also positioned Tesla as the best EV model in this competitive market:

The data has brought Tesla closer to becoming best selling car worldwide. In second place is Volkswagen Golf at 7095 units which is less than Model Y; Tiguan comes in the 3rd place with 5887 sales; Fiat 500 comes in 4th position with 4517 and behind it is Opel Corsa at 4139 units of sales. Lastly at the top 6 is the Tesla Model 3 which made it to the top 10 with sales of 3878 units.

This shift of best-selling vehicles was caused by Tesla's production expansion at their Berlin Berlin Gigafactory which began operating this year March after purchasing Grohmann Engineering.

Other factors such as incentives for electric cars and an increase in demand for EVs over gas-powered vehicles across Europe due to climate change concerns may have caused the increase of more sales.
