META DESCRIPTION: The all-electric Tesla Model Y makes its debut in Wanaka, New Zealand for testing of software.

New Zealand is famous for its breathtaking scenery, but Tesla brought its beauty brand to the region this winter.

The company is well known for testing its cars in different climates and conditions, so it is no surprise that they would test them in Wanaka, New Zealand, during the winter season.

Located in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand, Wanaka is a small town surrounded by Southern Alpine mountains that draws tourists from around the world.

It's also known for its recreational activities, such as skiing and snowboarding—activities in which Tesla's Model Y Track Mode appeared during its tests.

The New and Innovative Winter Test

For owners of the Tesla Model Y Performance, it's been a long wait. After Elon Musk excited owners with the announcement of Track Mode for the Model 3 Performance in 2020, it took some time before it was rolled out to Model Y.

But now, after two years of waiting, it's finally here. The Track Mode for Model Y Performance became available during the 2022 Holiday Update. And what does that mean? It means that owners can save up to 20 different driving profiles for a unique driving experience or track to get the most out of their vehicle while on the road.

Model Y Track Mode is designed to help you get the most out of your vehicle when you're on the road, whether trying to get through snow or want to take your car off-roading. The feature will allow you to save up to 20 totally different driving profiles for a custom driving experience or track so that you can always be prepared for whatever comes your way.

S3XY Lineup for Winter Test

While it was summer in California, the New Zealand team took their time to test all S3XY cars on snowy roads. They worked on software improvements and were able to test updates soon after being rolled out by their California counterparts.

It's mind-blowing that a software update can be sent from California halfway across the globe to be tested.

The Wanaka team had the privilege of going to different places to test the SX3Y lineup so customers can drive on different terrain and surfaces with different weather conditions—all so they can enjoy their new car even more.

Members of the Wanaka team always had a proving ground for testing new software. It was a snowy road with a steep hill and a sharp curve, providing an ideal setting for testing the car's performance on slippery surfaces. This particular track would be used thousands of times per software before any release to the public.

The testing experience involves driving the car, writing code, and collaborating. The tests' main intent is to get drivers' feedback to ensure that the software is working properly.
