Rivian Taps Clayco and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for 'State-of-the-Art' Georgia EV Factory

Electric adventure vehicle maker Rivian is revving up its Georgia ambitions, tapping Clayco and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) to design and build a "state-of-the-art" EV manufacturing plant in Stanton Springs, according to an Archinect News report. The 1,800-acre complex aims to become a major player in the electric vehicle movement, pumping out Rivian's vehicles as early as 2026.

Tony Sanger, Vice President of Facilities at Rivian, shared the following statement:

"We have an ambitious goal to develop an eco-conscious facility that illustrates our mission of keeping the world adventurous forever. With Clayco’s dedication to developing innovative ideas and solutions, we are confident they are the right partner to ensure the Rivian plant is a shining example of sustainable manufacturing," Sanger said.

Clayco states that the upcoming facility is expected to contribute "significantly to the continued growth and adoption of electric vehicles." The facility also bodes well for Rivian, which is currently looking to ramp the production of its R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV.

What is most interesting about the upcoming facility is the type of Rivian electric vehicles it will produce. Currently, Rivian only produces the R1T, R1S, and its Electric Delivery Van (EDV). Rivian, however, is also very busy in the development of its R2 platform, which will pave the way for smaller and more affordable vehicles. It remains to be seen if the Georgia plant will end up producing R1 or R2 vehicles. 

The recent development marks a shift from Rivian's plans from 2021, which pointed to a possible $5 billion factory in Fort Worth, Texas, Archinect News reported. Later that year, however, it was revealed that Rivian had pivoted to Georgia as the possible site for its electric vehicle factory.

So buckle up, Georgia. Rivian's EV revolution is rolling into town, powered by an A-team of design and construction talent. With Clayco's ingenuity and SOM's architectural prowess, the Stanton Springs EV factory could become a landmark not just for Rivian, but for the future of eco-conscious manufacturing.
