The Tesla Cybertruck delivery event will be livestreamed exclusively on X, formerly known as Twitter, the company has announced in a press release. This marks a departure from Tesla's past practice of livestreaming major events on platforms like YouTube.
The decision to use X for the Cybertruck delivery event is likely due to Elon Musk's ownership of the social media platform. However, some have raised concerns about the quality of X's livestreaming capabilities, which are generally considered to be inferior to YouTube's.
Additionally, X's video streaming service is not currently available on as many devices as YouTube, including smart TVs and Tesla's own electric vehicles. This means that Tesla fans who want to watch the Cybertruck delivery event from their vehicles will likely have to use their smartphones to access X's livestream.
Either that, of they would have to use their vehicles' web browser to access the X livestream. Such a solution seems worse than Tesla's typical strategy of posting a livestream on YouTube, just as it was done for events like the Tesla Semi first delivery event and the Cyber Rodeo.
Despite these concerns, Tesla is confident that X can handle the demand for the Cybertruck delivery event livestream. The company expects a large number of viewers to tune in to watch the unveiling of the much-anticipated pickup truck.
The Cybertruck delivery event will take place at Gigafactory Texas on Thursday, November 30, 2023. The event will be livestreamed on X's website and app.
